Destination weddings are fun, because you get to have a wedding and a vacation in one. There are so many new beautiful places to see, and new memories to make. However, destination weddings require a lot of planning which is very time- consuming. We want to ensure that your wedding day is hassle-free and on time. Here are some tips that you can use to ensure you wedding runs on time.

  1. Hire a wedding planner: The benefits of a wedding planner cannot be overstated. They ensure the wedding goes to plan, and is kept on time. Read our article here on the benefits of hiring a wedding planner.

https://getmarriedinjamaica.com/2017/08/16/70-things-your-wedding-planner-can-do-for-you/

  1. Make a family photos list: Having a photo list will ensure that everyone knows when they should begin moving to get their photos taken. You can have someone calling the names out, or you can give each of your family members a copy of the list. This will keep the flow going, and it will keep your wedding on time!
  2. Have a wedding day schedule and share it with vendors/friends who are helping: Making a schedule is always a good idea, especially when each task is on a timeline. Sharing it with vendors and friends who are helping with the wedding will keep everyone on the same place, and will help each person to work effectively in achieving the same goals.
  3. Do not leave anything(except getting ready) to the last minute: According to Murphy’s law, “anything that can go wrong will go wrong”. Do not leave anything to the last minute, or you will most likely find yourself without enough time to do everything. Ensure you carry out all your required tasks at least a day in advance, if possible.
  4. Ask for help from your friends and family: Do not be afraid to ask for help. Getting more assistance will ensure your wedding runs on time. We are sure your loving friends and family will have no problem with helping you run a few errands.
  5. Give your guests a buffer (while on vacation people tend to move slower): If you need your guests to show up at 2, tell them 1:45. This will ensure everyone shows up on time, and your day will run with ease.
  6. Hire vendors to do EVERYTHING that your budget allows, so you can focus on enjoying your day: If you can spare the money, hiring vendors will ensure your wedding follows your timeline. Florists, cake designers, make-up artists, photographers, and a wedding planner will do all the work for you, and will do it on time. This will also ensure that you have time on your hands to enjoy your day!
  7. Get enough sleep: Lack of sleep will result in discoordination of thought which will lead to you not doing your tasks efficiently. The more sleep you get, the more efficient you will be. You will do what you need to be done to the best of your abilities and on time.
  8. Make a to do/to bring list for the wedding day: Having a list will ensure that you do not forget anything. If you forget something important on the day of your wedding, you will have to try sourcing it, and that will lead to everything running off time. Sit down, think of everything you need on your wedding day, and write it down. It will work in your favor.
  9. Pack anything for the wedding day BEFORE the wedding day: This is very important in ensuring that your day runs flawlessly. Do not wait until the wedding day to pack, and if you can bring them to your wedding venue a day early, if you can.

Why Hire A Professional Photographer For Your Wedding?

Photography is an investment! You get to freeze a special moment in your life and capture it forever. Your wedding will be one of the biggest days of your life, and you want to ensure that the photographic memories are beautiful and capable of vicariously transporting you back to the day you said, “I do”. A lot of individuals, in an effort to save money, get their family member or friend to do the photography for their wedding, and end up being sorry, wishing they had hired a professional. We have arranged for you ten reasons why you should hire a professional photographer for your wedding.

  1. They give you great, professional results: They are pros, and most of them have done hundreds of weddings, getting better and better each time. They also have their reputation and image to uphold, so they will ensure that they do a good job, so you can in turn recommend them to your social groups.

When you pay for a professional with all of their expensive professional equipment, knowledge, experience and know how, you are in fact paying for a “guarantee”.   What is peace of mind worth to you?  To know that on your wedding day, all you have to worry about is getting married because you have a professional at the helm- A historian for lack of a better term, documenting the moments and immortalizing the memories of your special day.

Rohan Laylor (http://www.phatdogvisuals.com/)

2V9A9585.jpg

  1. They are committed: They have to show up on the day of your wedding, because they would have signed a contract with you. While your close friends and family can bail out at the last minute, professional photographers cannot. In the unlikely event of an emergency, they will send someone in to replace them as they have a network of other professionals.
  2. They will always have back-ups: On your wedding day, a professional photographer will have back-up cameras, back-up batteries, and even a backup photographer just in case he falls ill. They will also have backups of your wedding photos in case of a hard drive failure or any other disasters that can happen.
  3. Your wedding photos are one of the only things you will have from your wedding: After your wedding is done and gone, photography archives the details. The one thing you will always have from your wedding is the photographs: you will show them to your future children, it may even be the last professional photo of elderly guests before they pass, and you will look at them when you want to have a walk down memory lane. For something that important, it is worth hiring the right person for the job!

“Hiring a professional photographer comes with the peace of mind that you are letting your friends and family enjoy your wedding, with experience to rely on. It is more than just photography, photographers have seen the past so much times, they can help with your future.”

Rowell Photography (http://www.rowellphoto.com/)

160304190939_RTR4015-00844-Edit

  1. A professional photographer has a shot sheet and a timeline of events. They will know the shots that they want to take, and when to take them. They will sit down with the bride and groom and discuss all the shots that must be taken. A rookie photographer will not take the time out to do all of these things, and he or she will end up ruining the photographs for your wedding and possibly missing key events.
  2. They will capture all the great moments: A professional will ensure that all the perfect moments of your wedding are captured at great angles, with great quality. Amateurs will miss the big moments of your wedding. Moments you can never get back.

“Weddings are intricate, emotional and complex events. They happen fast and usually there is a lot going on. A professional photographer knows what is essential for capturing the energy of the day, what is crucial and can’t possibly be missed. They will also have the unique ability to see the moment and catch it well before it fades away, immortalizing it in a way that makes sense visually. That requires a unique ability to instantly decide on both composition and technical settings. It calls for a trained eye, one which will know how to seize every creative opportunity before it passes.”

Manuela Stefan (http://www.manuelastefan.com/)

Borghinvilla_134

  1. A professional photographer will have you looking good in all your photos. They are highly experienced and they know how to make you feel comfortable and natural when you are taking your photos. This does not come only from skill but from years and years of experience, the best equipment and hours of editing.

Coconuts and Crystals Wedding at Borghinvilla

Located on the Northern coast of Jamaica, Borghinvilla was chosen by Cynthia and Andrew for their nuptials! This spectacular wedding venue offers an exquisite blend of the most desirable details in one place: two acres of lush tropical gardens, cliffs, a sand beach, and breathtaking views of the Caribbean Sea. In contrast to the natural elements, the ceremony and reception décor chosen for the wedding shoot included luxurious items such as hanging chandeliers, crystals, soft white and blush roses, and candle light. The turquoise sea view acted as the most incredible backdrop for this fun-loving couple, and the bride and groom enjoyed each other’s company in these magnificent surroundings, while tasting freshly cut coconuts. Take a look at the photos below, taken by photographer Manuela Stefan! This is a styled photoshoot,  and not a real wedding.

Remembering Loved Ones At Your Wedding

As the wedding day approaches, couples can be overwhelmed with memories of loved ones that cannot be with them on their special day. It can be a bittersweet celebration if there has been a long-time expectation that certain people will be there, and the most upsetting association can be specific plans that were made to include them in the ceremony: a lifelong dream to have their father walk them down the aisle or a dance with their mother. Although some people believe that the person lives on and joins the couple in spirit on the day, it is nice to incorporate their memory into the ceremony and reception. Here are some ways that you can incorporate your lost loved ones into your wedding:

Borghinvilla_147

  1. Tie a loved one’s neck tie around the ring pillow. This can look less obvious if it’s tied into a bow.
  2. Incorporate a loved one’s favourite elements into the wedding (serve their favourite dessert or drink).
  3. Choose their favourite songs for the memorable moments (walking down the aisle, cake cutting, registry signing, first dance).
  4. Print small photos of loved ones on fabric iron on a sash, or ribbon, or inner side of dress or suit.
  5. If you have a jewellery keepsake then use the stones, or have their jewellery sized to fit you.
  6. Have a slide show and incorporate a few photos of them.
  7. Include a memory to them in your program or perhaps a few words from the officiant.
  8. Get a mini photo locket for the boutonnière that is subtle.
  9. Send a wish lantern into the sky in memory of your loved one.

Some ideas can be done privately after the wedding, such as placing the bride’s bouquet or some of the wedding flowers on the grave. Weddings should be filled with a lifetime of memories, and the most important thing is for couples to not only remember the past, but also to create good memories for the future.

Brooke and Tim’s Sunset Wedding at Borghinvilla

Brooke and Tim, with their friends and family, flew in from Canada to enjoy a destination wedding in Jamaica, at Borghinvilla! The group was all about having fun, and they did, at one of the most private destination wedding venues. From the bride and groom, to the guests, everyone was happy to be treated to a sunset ceremony and dinner reception, while looking at cliff side views of the sparkling water of the Caribbean Sea. It was all smiles, and the wedding party loved Jamaica and Borghinvilla! They danced the night away on the cliffs, enjoying the cool sea breeze. We thank the newly-weds, Brooke and Tim, for allowing Borghinvilla to host their spectacular wedding. Here is what the couple had to say about Borghinvilla:

“We couldn’t have asked for a better setting for our special day. Borghinvilla was absolutely stunning!  We knew it was going to be beautiful from looking at the pictures online, however when you see it in person it is absolutely breathtaking.  Jenn and the rest of her staff were super helpful and went out of their way to make sure all was perfect on our wedding day.  As a bride, I did not have a single stress moment with Jenn at my side.  Our ceremony was perfectly timed with the sunset, and was a smooth transition into our reception.  Our guests still talk about the amazing views, friendly staff, and amazing food!  We would highly recommend this venue to anyone looking to create memories for any occasion.  A huge thank you to Jenn and her team!”

Booking agent: Jamaica Treasures

Benefits of Hiring a Travel Agent

In the technological era, it is very simple for us to make reservations with the tip of our fingers, from booking a hotel in Jamaica, to booking a flight to Eastern Europe. With this in mind, it is easy to think that travel agents would have become redundant, but this is far from true. According to a study done by the American Society of Travel Agents in 2015, more than 81% of travel agents said their revenues either increased, or stayed the same. Travel agents are still important, and the industry is growing each day. How important are they, and what are the benefits of using a travel agent?

  1. They save money and time: Imagine spending hours on the internet searching for a reasonable flight, on the date that you want: it can be both frustrating and time consuming. You could save yourself all that time by simply booking with a travel agent. He or she will know what to search for based on your budget. They also have certain links and access to information about flights, promotions, or package deals that a consumer might not have.

Brenda Washington-O’Neale from With This Ring Travel, “About a week ago, I had a family of 5 that travelled to Cancun for the first time. It was their first international trip and this happened on the return. They were on a charter and I received a text message asking what would happen if they missed their flight. My immediate response was to type DON”T MISS IT. The next flight was 7 days away. Some aiport personnel had directed them to the wrong line. When I realized that, I made a couple of calls and she said she heard an angel call her name. My contact searched the line calling out her name. My contact escorted them to the proper check-in, helped through security and got them to the gate with 10 minutes to spare. It is all about relationships and an online agency can’t offer that. We are now planning their next trip.”

  1. They can help in cases of emergencies: Imagine having everything set and ready to go on your perfect vacation or to your dream wedding when a storm cancels all flights. It is hard to think about! If you booked with a travel agent, you could make one simple call and your agent will assist you with rebooking your flight.

Camille Sanders from Chic Romance Travel, “I had a couple that I booked to Bahamas, and there was actually a hurricane coming. Everybody flew in and got as far as Miami, got stuck there, they flew in the next morning for the wedding, and they literally got married in the eye of the storm, and then we evacuated everybody out. As with all travel agents, by using my services not only am I planning or booking for you, but I am there during the trip. If you are on site and have an issue, you pick up the phone, send me a text and I am there to help you and make sure you get back home safely.”

  1. They give you quality for your money: The average individual usually books flights and hotel rooms that are cheaper, not knowing that sometimes cheaper usually means less quality of services. Travel agents are all about getting quality, while working with their clients’ budgets.

Teri from Endless Love Travel, “The client that came in saying I looked on line and it’s a cheap price and looks pretty good. When I asked if any of the following would bother them: limited a la carte dinner based on length of staying, requiring daily reservations based on availability, wrist bands, towel cards, no top shelf alcohol, extra charges for premium meals such as lobster, charges to have a safe in their room – they quickly got their first lesson in price vs. value. Had we not had the conversation they would have booked blindly – as many who shop alone on line do, and been very upset with the experience.”

  1. They have lots of connections: They make friends in the industry, and before or when a problem arises they use these connections to ensure that their clients are well taken care of, and truly aware of the negatives and positives of what they are booking.

Anna Fishman from Olegana Travel Boutique, “There are circles and then there are insider circles. Travel agents belong to a tight group of insider circles of travel professionals that sell only to each other. Do you want to have a dinner in a home of a private chef in Florence and have him teach you to cook? No problem! Do you want to have a private wine tasting in the castle in Bordeaux? No problem! Do you want to land on a side of a volcano in Iceland and have a picnic? No problem! Do you want to tour Tuscany in a vintage Fiat? No problem! Your imagination is the limit!”

  1. They offer expert advice and recommendations: Is the hotel really in Montego Bay? Is it close to the airport? Is the beach really 5 stars? Are the rooms really clean? Your travel agent can answer all of these questions and much more.
