Marijuana Infused Wedding at Borghinvilla, Jamaica

Borghinvilla unveiled one of their most luxurious online photo showcases, with one of the most creative and unique wedding themes, “The Weeding”. The wedding included hints of marijuana in the potted plants, bouquet, boutonniere, pipes, and a Ganja Rolling Station. According to the photographer, Manuela Stefan, the aesthetic was not compromised; the couple was able to have a elegant destination wedding, while enjoying the legal limits of marijuana in Jamaica. See the styled photo-shoot below!

Coconuts and Crystals Wedding at Borghinvilla

Located on the Northern coast of Jamaica, Borghinvilla was chosen by Cynthia and Andrew for their nuptials! This spectacular wedding venue offers an exquisite blend of the most desirable details in one place: two acres of lush tropical gardens, cliffs, a sand beach, and breathtaking views of the Caribbean Sea. In contrast to the natural elements, the ceremony and reception décor chosen for the wedding shoot included luxurious items such as hanging chandeliers, crystals, soft white and blush roses, and candle light. The turquoise sea view acted as the most incredible backdrop for this fun-loving couple, and the bride and groom enjoyed each other’s company in these magnificent surroundings, while tasting freshly cut coconuts. Take a look at the photos below, taken by photographer Manuela Stefan! This is a styled photoshoot,  and not a real wedding.

Remembering Loved Ones At Your Wedding

As the wedding day approaches, couples can be overwhelmed with memories of loved ones that cannot be with them on their special day. It can be a bittersweet celebration if there has been a long-time expectation that certain people will be there, and the most upsetting association can be specific plans that were made to include them in the ceremony: a lifelong dream to have their father walk them down the aisle or a dance with their mother. Although some people believe that the person lives on and joins the couple in spirit on the day, it is nice to incorporate their memory into the ceremony and reception. Here are some ways that you can incorporate your lost loved ones into your wedding:

Borghinvilla_147

  1. Tie a loved one’s neck tie around the ring pillow. This can look less obvious if it’s tied into a bow.
  2. Incorporate a loved one’s favourite elements into the wedding (serve their favourite dessert or drink).
  3. Choose their favourite songs for the memorable moments (walking down the aisle, cake cutting, registry signing, first dance).
  4. Print small photos of loved ones on fabric iron on a sash, or ribbon, or inner side of dress or suit.
  5. If you have a jewellery keepsake then use the stones, or have their jewellery sized to fit you.
  6. Have a slide show and incorporate a few photos of them.
  7. Include a memory to them in your program or perhaps a few words from the officiant.
  8. Get a mini photo locket for the boutonnière that is subtle.
  9. Send a wish lantern into the sky in memory of your loved one.

Some ideas can be done privately after the wedding, such as placing the bride’s bouquet or some of the wedding flowers on the grave. Weddings should be filled with a lifetime of memories, and the most important thing is for couples to not only remember the past, but also to create good memories for the future.

Brooke and Tim’s Sunset Wedding at Borghinvilla

Brooke and Tim, with their friends and family, flew in from Canada to enjoy a destination wedding in Jamaica, at Borghinvilla! The group was all about having fun, and they did, at one of the most private destination wedding venues. From the bride and groom, to the guests, everyone was happy to be treated to a sunset ceremony and dinner reception, while looking at cliff side views of the sparkling water of the Caribbean Sea. It was all smiles, and the wedding party loved Jamaica and Borghinvilla! They danced the night away on the cliffs, enjoying the cool sea breeze. We thank the newly-weds, Brooke and Tim, for allowing Borghinvilla to host their spectacular wedding. Here is what the couple had to say about Borghinvilla:

“We couldn’t have asked for a better setting for our special day. Borghinvilla was absolutely stunning!  We knew it was going to be beautiful from looking at the pictures online, however when you see it in person it is absolutely breathtaking.  Jenn and the rest of her staff were super helpful and went out of their way to make sure all was perfect on our wedding day.  As a bride, I did not have a single stress moment with Jenn at my side.  Our ceremony was perfectly timed with the sunset, and was a smooth transition into our reception.  Our guests still talk about the amazing views, friendly staff, and amazing food!  We would highly recommend this venue to anyone looking to create memories for any occasion.  A huge thank you to Jenn and her team!”

Booking agent: Jamaica Treasures

Benefits of Hiring a Travel Agent

In the technological era, it is very simple for us to make reservations with the tip of our fingers, from booking a hotel in Jamaica, to booking a flight to Eastern Europe. With this in mind, it is easy to think that travel agents would have become redundant, but this is far from true. According to a study done by the American Society of Travel Agents in 2015, more than 81% of travel agents said their revenues either increased, or stayed the same. Travel agents are still important, and the industry is growing each day. How important are they, and what are the benefits of using a travel agent?

borghinvilla5

  1. They save money and time: Imagine spending hours on the internet searching for a reasonable flight, on the date that you want: it can be both frustrating and time consuming. You could save yourself all that time by simply booking with a travel agent. He or she will know what to search for based on your budget. They also have certain links and access to information about flights, promotions, or package deals that a consumer might not have.

Brenda Washington-O’Neale from With This Ring Travel, “About a week ago, I had a family of 5 that travelled to Cancun for the first time. It was their first international trip and this happened on the return. They were on a charter and I received a text message asking what would happen if they missed their flight. My immediate response was to type DON”T MISS IT. The next flight was 7 days away. Some aiport personnel had directed them to the wrong line. When I realized that, I made a couple of calls and she said she heard an angel call her name. My contact searched the line calling out her name. My contact escorted them to the proper check-in, helped through security and got them to the gate with 10 minutes to spare. It is all about relationships and an online agency can’t offer that. We are now planning their next trip.”

  1. They can help in cases of emergencies: Imagine having everything set and ready to go on your perfect vacation or to your dream wedding when a storm cancels all flights. It is hard to think about! If you booked with a travel agent, you could make one simple call and your agent will assist you with rebooking your flight.

Camille Sanders from Chic Romance Travel, “I had a couple that I booked to Bahamas, and there was actually a hurricane coming. Everybody flew in and got as far as Miami, got stuck there, they flew in the next morning for the wedding, and they literally got married in the eye of the storm, and then we evacuated everybody out. As with all travel agents, by using my services not only am I planning or booking for you, but I am there during the trip. If you are on site and have an issue, you pick up the phone, send me a text and I am there to help you and make sure you get back home safely.”

  1. They give you quality for your money: The average individual usually books flights and hotel rooms that are cheaper, not knowing that sometimes cheaper usually means less quality of services. Travel agents are all about getting quality, while working with their clients’ budgets.

Teri from Endless Love Travel, “The client that came in saying I looked on line and it’s a cheap price and looks pretty good. When I asked if any of the following would bother them: limited a la carte dinner based on length of staying, requiring daily reservations based on availability, wrist bands, towel cards, no top shelf alcohol, extra charges for premium meals such as lobster, charges to have a safe in their room – they quickly got their first lesson in price vs. value. Had we not had the conversation they would have booked blindly – as many who shop alone on line do, and been very upset with the experience.”

  1. They have lots of connections: They make friends in the industry, and before or when a problem arises they use these connections to ensure that their clients are well taken care of, and truly aware of the negatives and positives of what they are booking.

Anna Fishman from Olegana Travel Boutique, “There are circles and then there are insider circles. Travel agents belong to a tight group of insider circles of travel professionals that sell only to each other. Do you want to have a dinner in a home of a private chef in Florence and have him teach you to cook? No problem! Do you want to have a private wine tasting in the castle in Bordeaux? No problem! Do you want to land on a side of a volcano in Iceland and have a picnic? No problem! Do you want to tour Tuscany in a vintage Fiat? No problem! Your imagination is the limit!”

Wedding Advice

Weddings are happy occasions, but sometimes they can be stressful if they are not planned effectively. It is easy to get lost in the planning, and forget the true reason for this splendid occasion. Take a breath, and read these great pieces of advice from Jennifer Borgh.

  1. “If you think it is expensive to hire a professional to do the job, wait until you hire an amateur”- Paul Neil. When considering vendors for your wedding, do not only think about the price. Your wedding is more than a price. A vendor can charge less and give you low quality services; a vendor can be expensive and is still not better than average priced vendors. You have to research, and know who you are hiring. Visit their websites and read the reviews, and make a decision not based on price, but quality.
  2. Save the drama for your wedding planner. If you hire a wedding planner, tell him or her all about your family issues, whether it is about your crazy ex-boyfriend, overly obsessive uncle, or rude sister, “as your wedding planner, I want to know it all. I need to be prepared to help avoid any issues on or leading up to the wedding day.  Am I going to have to pull the plug for an embarrassing speech, entertain someone so they can’t interfere, or am I going to have to tell someone that they are not welcome at the wedding?” Having knowledge about these things can help the wedding planner to assist you in avoiding certain situations, and also how to work out seating arrangements.
  3. Get a great photographer. Photographers help to keep the wedding alive, even when it is over. To hire a great photographer you need to get professional referrals, view an entire portfolio done by the photographer, make sure they have a second shooter or assistant, find out the turn- around times, make sure that touch ups are included, pay for the rights and for a digital CD/DVD to make re-prints, and find photographers that are willing to be flexible with their time.
  4. Create a detailed budget. Having a budget is vital in helping you to see the future and decide what is most important to you, before the money is spent, “The budget is the first item that I like to tackle with all of my couples. I provide them with a budget sheet and ask them to either fill it out on their own, or to work with me in filling it out. It’s very important to me that my clients get the wedding that they want so I encourage them to take advantage of my skills and experience to put together a budget that works with their weddings dreams but stays within their allocated financials. Budgets aren’t set in stone, and clients can add or remove from the budget as needed.”

How to Have A Happy Wedding!

Weddings are supposed to be a day filled with joy, but some couples neglect the most important thing to having a good wedding: being happy! We here at Borghinvilla want to ensure that your wedding day is filled with nothing but smile and laughter, so here are some tips on how to have a happy wedding.

  1. Hire the correct professionals. Hire professionals that are seasoned in the wedding business and are good at what they do. These professionals will show up on time, and will give you the quality services that you deserve.

  1. Hire a wedding planner. A wedding planner helps to take the stress off your hands, and will ensure that the wedding day runs flawlessly. They take control of all the details, and have creative ideas to fix anything that can go wrong at your wedding. Read our article on the pros and cons of a wedding planner here: https://getmarriedinjamaica.com/2017/07/25/pros-and-cons-of-hiring-a-wedding-planner/

  1. Invite guests that are truly happy for you. Invite guests that are as happy as you that you are getting married. This will ensure that your guests are more cooperative and will help to assist you when things go wrong. These guests will also not complain about all the minor details, and will appreciate your choice of wedding style and venue. Have your guests read our guide on how to be a good destination wedding guest: https://getmarriedinjamaica.com/2017/07/24/guide-to-being-a-good-destination-wedding-guest/

  1. Do not sweat the small stuff. Do not over react when minor details do not go as planned; it can ruin your whole wedding day. You have to be positive. For example, if you forget the ring pillow, you can let the ring bearer carry the ring in a box. Try to come up with creative ways of solving small problems.

  1. Have back up plans, and back up plans for those back up plans. For example, if you are planning to have your wedding outdoors, ensure that you have a tent in case it rains. Having these ‘just-in case plans’ can  save your wedding from becoming a disaster.

  1. Do not stress yourself. Do not stay up all night worrying about the details of your wedding, and learn to trust the professionals that you hired. Get enough sleep the days before your wedding, and schedule some alone time for yourself, get a massage etc. This will ensure that you are a happy bride when you are ready to walk down the aisle.

  1. Appreciate everything about your wedding. Appreciate the vendors you hired and appreciate that your guests travelled to attend.  Stop to smell the roses (literally!) .  You choose the tone of your wedding so let everyone working and attending your wedding follow your lead of joy.

Also, the guest list will be significantly reduced as distant acquaintances will likely not spend the money and vacation time from work required to travel.
  2. You can have your wedding and honeymoon in the same location. Instead of spending money on extra flights for your honeymoon, you can upgrade to a different resort on the same island (consider upgrading rooms and going to adults only resort where you can start the romance).
